Pstryk

A Polish energy startup (since October 2024) selling electricity on hourly dynamic prices from the TGE wholesale market (RDN), with a zero handling fee, a margin of 0.08 PLN net/kWh and its own WiFi meter inside the fuse box. Key safety mechanism: the Pstryk price cap — the weighted monthly average will not exceed 0.61 PLN/kWh gross (until 31.12.2026, with planned extensions). Endorsed by Michał Szafrański (ambassador, code NINJA50 = 50 PLN discount).

🚀 Main thesis

Pstryk is not “cheaper electricity” — it’s electricity you can steer.

The cap protects against price spikes, dynamic prices unlock savings potential, the app provides full transparency (kWh cost broken down into: market + margin + distribution + excise + VAT), and notifications about tomorrow’s prices let you plan consumption.

🧩 Billing model

  • Hourly price from TGE/RDN + 0.08 PLN net/kWh margin.
  • 0 PLN handling fee (vs 12-31 PLN/month at E.ON and other commercial offers).
  • Tomorrow’s prices known today after 12:00 + a push notification at 19:00 with recommendations.
  • Pstryk price cap calculated monthly (not hourly): if the weighted monthly average > 0.61 PLN/kWh gross → discount down to 0.61. If lower → you pay less. You can’t lose.

☘️ Who it makes sense for

YES:

  • EV owners with a home charger — potential ~1800 PLN/year when charging in the golden window 10-15 instead of in the evening.
  • Heat pump owners — ~970 PLN/year with scheduled operation.
  • Energy storage / PV with storage — a natural match for dynamic prices.
  • E.ON customers (most Warsaw residents) — the handling-fee saving alone is 180-300 PLN/year, the meter pays for itself in 8-12 months.
  • Retirees / remote workers — consumption profile naturally lands in the midday “golden window” 10-15.
  • People who like to understand their bills — no other vendor in Poland gives this level of detail.

NO:

  • Passive customer on the regulated URE tariff (PGE/Tauron/Enea) — 9-33 PLN/year of savings, meter pays back in 3-4 years.
  • No WiFi / no smartphone — the service won’t work.
  • No interest in optimization — the cap protects you, but you lose the entire upside of the product.

  • Standard: 60 PLN/year
  • Couple at work: 51 PLN/year
  • Retiree: 117 PLN/year
  • Family with kids: 120 PLN/year (6× more than passive)
  • Remote worker: 127 PLN/year

🗒️ The golden price window

  • Cheapest 10:00-15:00: 2025 average = 0.45 PLN/kWh (28% below benchmark). 67% of hours in this window are cheaper than URE.
  • Most expensive 17:00-21:00: average 0.88 PLN/kWh (43% above benchmark). Only 9% of hours here beat URE.
  • Daily spread in 2025: 0.74 PLN/kWh on average, max >2 PLN/kWh.
  • Sunday = king of cheap days (16 gr cheaper than Tuesday).
  • Negative prices: 95 hours in 2025, record -0.52 PLN/kWh (Easter Sunday April 13, 12:00). 72% on weekends/holidays. 33% landed in April.

🔌 What can be shifted

  • Washing machine 2×/week into the golden window: ~68 PLN/year
  • Dishwasher 6×/week: ~162 PLN/year
  • EV charging 2×/week, 40 kWh each: ~1800 PLN/year
  • Heat pump over the heating season: ~970 PLN/year

What’s NOT worth touching: fridge/freezer (24/7), LED lighting (pennies), router, AC (already runs in the golden window anyway).

💰 Getting in

  • 299 PLN gross activation fee (meter + installation by a Pstryk electrician — Warsaw, Kraków, Wrocław, Łódź, Poznań, Tricity, Szczecin, Bydgoszcz, Katowice, Częstochowa, Toruń, Grudziądz, Lublin, Rybnik, Racibórz, Wodzisław Śl.).
  • Code NINJA50 = -50 PLN on the first invoice → effectively 249 PLN.
  • The meter remains Pstryk’s property, returned when the contract ends.
  • Indefinite-term contract, monthly notice, zero contractual penalties, 14-day right of withdrawal.
  • Pstryk Connect (optional): 30 PLN/month (3 months free) — automation for EV chargers, energy storage, and in the future heat pumps.

Meter ROI (249 PLN, Standard Active profile)

  • URE tariff: ~3.5 years
  • E.ON: ~1 year
  • Commercial bundled: ~8 months

⚠️ Requirements

  • Stable home WiFi.
  • Space in the fuse box for one extra “breaker”.
  • Smartphone (iOS/Android) — the app is the heart of the product.
  • PPE number from your invoice when signing up.

Pstryk handles the termination with your current vendor (via power of attorney). Switching time: 6-8 weeks.

🔧 Installation pitfalls (cautionary notes from the article)

  1. Unpack the meter in your presence — the meter + clamps are factory-calibrated together. Mixing sets = wrong readings.
  2. Phase order on 3-phase systems — compare instantaneous per-phase load in the app with the main meter.
  3. Pair the app while the electrician is there — don’t let them leave before you’ve verified.

📱 App features

  • Hourly prices for today + tomorrow (after 12:00).
  • Push notification at 19:00 with recommendations.
  • Live consumption refreshed every minute, per phase (3-phase).
  • Hourly / daily / monthly history from day 1.
  • Full breakdown: market price + Pstryk margin + distribution + excise + VAT.
  • CO2 footprint.
  • Invoices + payments (bank transfer / PayU).
  • Open API — integration with smart home.
  • Referral program.

⚠️ Caveats

  • The cap does not cover distribution (no vendor can influence that).
  • The cap requires a working meter (when WiFi is down → no protection).
  • Pstryk is a startup from October 2024 — short history, exposure risk to a young company. Mitigated by the lack of long-term commitment.
  • The cap is valid until 31.12.2026 — leadership signals an extension, but there’s no guarantee for 2027+.
